WHAT IS FORRÓ?

Originating from the North East of Brazil, Forró is a warm, rhythmic, and playful partner dance rooted in live music, improvisation, and connection.

The dance moves both within and out of the embrace, combining simple footwork with rhythm, flow, and shared movement.

Alongside dancing Forró itself, many of the principles explored through rhythm, listening, and connection can also inspire dancing more freely to other 4/4 music cultures including reggae and folk.

The aim is to give participants enough foundation to begin social dancing while also helping grow a sustainable and welcoming forró community within Cornwall.

About the Facilitation

Bec is an experienced teacher and tango dancer who, despite being relatively new to forró himself, has become passionate about helping grow the dance and its community within Cornwall.

These sessions are not being presented as formal expert-led tuition, but as an accessible introduction that is then enriched with guest teachers from Brazil see guest teacher page. This combination is hoped to support the development of a local forró scene and build a dacning community.

Inclusive & Queer-Informed Approach

No partner necessary.
Leading and following are open to all genders.

These sessions are informed by queer social dance culture, where leading and following are not automatically assigned according to gender.

Participants are encouraged to explore both roles within the dance in a relaxed and supportive environment, helping develop a wider understanding of connection, communication, and movement within the embrace.

You do not need to identify as queer or LGBTQ+ to attend. The space is open to anyone who is respectful of difference, comfortable within an inclusive environment, and interested in exploring dance through openness, listening, and shared learning.
