Visiting Teachers & Growing the Cornwall Forró Scene
Barefoot Forró began bringing the dance to Cornwall when Bec invited Felipe Abreu down in December 2025. Since then, workshops and events have gradually introduced the dance at venues around Cornwall.

In September we also have the pleasure of welcoming Elton Rodrigues

from Brazil — a leading dancer based in Seville as well as a Capoeira master — who will be delivering an intensive weekend of forró in Cornwall.
The aim of these introductory sessions is to help people develop enough understanding of the basics that, when visiting teachers come to Cornwall, we can really make the most out of the opportunity.
About the Facilitation
Bec is an experienced teacher and tango dancer who, despite being relatively new to forró himself, has become passionate about helping grow the dance and its community within Cornwall.
These sessions are not being presented as formal expert-led tuition, but as an accessible introduction and community-building space helping support the development of a local forró scene.
Inclusive & Queer-Informed Approach
We ask that all our teachers are comfortable with queer-informed culture. And that leading and following are open to all genders.
These sessions are informed by queer social dance culture, where leading and following are not automatically assigned according to gender.
Participants are encouraged to explore both roles within the dance in a relaxed and supportive environment, helping develop a wider understanding of connection, communication, and movement within the embrace.
You do not need to identify as queer or LGBTQ+ to attend. The space is open to anyone who is respectful of difference, comfortable within an inclusive environment, and interested in exploring dance through openness, listening, and shared learning.
